My Studio Dog Goes to Dog Heaven, a tribute

This portrait is the last one I did while Sascha was at my side.
This portrait is the last one I did while Sascha was at my side.

Today, I said goodbye to Sascha, my Boykin Spaniel studio dog. She was a great dog, well loved, and lived a very long time with us. She finally got too old to maintain her quality of life.  She loved to sit at my feet by my easel and was excited everyday to journey there as a routine when I would say, "Studio!"  I want to make a tribute to her and any one who has lost a special pet. This is a short story called "The Rainbow Bridge:"

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special peson who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears go up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen! And when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet! Then you cross the Rainbow bridge, never to be separated!

Rest in Peace, my canine friend!

So very sorry, Karen and Chris. I do know what losing a pet is all about. We lost two precious souls a year ago: still miss them and love them.

Thank you for posting such a sweet story. Lost my sweet Maya, studio kitty over a year ago and have just two weeks ago adopted new 5 year old Ben. He's settling right in to his studio duties.

Who can say that we don't have dogs in Dog Heaven...Thank you so much...I have two King Charles Cockers there...been gone a long time...but they are still here...think we have to have libraries and books and artists there too...Thanks again for sharing.

Rest in peace Sascha, I hope you find solace in heaven. I also lost mine when my pet was involved in an accident and we have to perform euthanasia after sustaining serious injuries. I also hope that she can find peace and again, sorry for your loss.
