Birthing A Painting

Pulling Strings
Pulling Strings

Birthing a painting is synomous to human conception. When a baby's rosy folds of its eyelids reveal round orbs of connection, a soul is united with its worldly mother and father, all of us feel this bond of life's continuity. We all have feelings of birthing. We as humans learn from all birth. It happens every spring. And it happens in the studio. We are creators. Like the first inklings of an idea forming, it unfolds naturally as our hands touch upon the materials and bring life to a thing. The thing is alive with beauty and form. It has struggled to be born. It has had a moment of terror that it could not be completed! It has roared and quieted. It would not be aborted! It has kicked and screamed all the way to creation. It has wiggled out of a dark hole. It has taken your mind and worked it over till is is spent! It finally has said,"Look at me, I am good! I am worthy of being looked at, commented on, lived with, connected to earth and soul, deepening the lives of those who gaze upon me to be loved. I am a part of the universe of your world." It becomes real.

Or, it becomes shown to the world on the internet, in galleries, in homes where its story is heard. Its image may get reprinted or liscensed for all to see on cloth or billboards, in movies, in the news or on pages of magazines. It travels and beomes a part of the world. It stirs up controversy. It inspires and gives judicious interpretation to duplication. It may be stolen or lost to be found again. It is sold and resold. It is scoffed upon by one and reveared by another until one says it is THE biggest next thing. Then it can be ridiculed and then popular because of its meaning. It can be rejected by academia, and then acccepted by moguls. It can depleat you or sustain you. It can exhaust you and shock you! It can lovingly lift you! It can arrogantly mock you and you wonder, "Did I really create this?" It is your soul! It lives in your mind such that it becomes you! It is the part of you that must do it again, and again and again and again!

Beautiful description of the creative process. Drawing out the inner workings of the heart to produce a tangible creation that is fruit bearing and multiplicative in nature as far as moving others the way it moved you, or in other ways as well, is as fulfilling as seeing little you's roam about on their own.
