Two Women Two Visions

Karen Weihs and Jane Smithers One-Day Workshop called Two Women Two Visions on "Oil Painting with a Palette Knife Demonstration" is sold out until June 28. On Friday, June 28 in Asheville, we are accepting more participants. It will be held downtown at the Haywood Park Hotel.

I enjoy painting with professional colleagues. Jane Smithers and I have teamed up to produce this one-day workshop that is part hands on, part participation, all demonstration by us. We do each a painting form start to finish. Two for one! One day gets you two-for-one to see two paintings finished in an hour and a half side by side. The participants can do hands-on in breaks. Lots of discussion and talking the participants through the stages. Before we make the paintings with all palette knife texture and color harmony, explaining all along how to, Jane shows journaling with water soluable pencils, pens and watercolors to get the concept of how to envision a painting from sketches and mind organization. There is no secret to art, but for some, there has to be a formula that presents a real journey into a painting. This is two insider's view point that works. After the paintings are complete, I show how to finish the painting for dazzing pops, glazing, then a talk on frames, sales or how to get your artistic presentation to out there to the universe. After this one day presentation, students who really wish to learn how to paint like this usually sign up for a one-on-one with one of us or an "art by appointment" instruction day. It is a different approach to painting which works for all of us as workshop ideas and paticipation in workshops are changing with our busy world.
